Health insurance for teachers in Thailand
Most teachers in Thailand have two layers of cover: Thai Social Security, which comes with formal employment, and a private policy, often provided by the school. Knowing what each one pays for avoids surprises at the hospital desk.
The two layers
Social Security. Employees of registered employers pay into Thailand's Social Security Fund. It gives access to treatment at a registered hospital and some cash benefits. See Social Security for teachers.
Private insurance. Many schools provide a group health policy. Teachers whose school does not, or who want more cover, buy their own from a Thai or international insurer. See expat health insurance.
